The latest First Rounders guest is Craig Mello. He is a co-founder of Atalanta, and he runs the Mello lab at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He also won the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology in 2006. As part of receiving that award, he wrote a thoughtful, engaging biographical essay that can be found here.

After speaking with him, the tone of the essay is no surprise. Craig Mello is a thoughtful person, in a lot of directions. He enjoys astronomy, and knows its history. He takes a certain pleasure from observing the world — in all its lunacy — and trying to figure it out. And of course he spends great chunks of his time focused on RNA interference. As I say in the podcast, I had no idea what to expect with this talk, and it surprised me in a lot of ways. I was almost disappointed that I had to eventually stop recording.
